Figures

I will not be discussing specific house meanings of these figures, but broad meanings applicable to all houses. House-by-house meanings are discussed in many books I sourced from and can be found in abridged form here.

Populus - Nation

Populus’ meaning is determined by the meaning of the figures that connect back to it, being good with good figures and in good aspects, and bad with bad figures and bad aspects. More specifically, it is good for reflection, and bad when focus is needed.

Its element is Water, its zodiac sign is Cancer, its planet is the waxing Moon, and its genius is Hasmodai. Its opposite figure is Via. This figure looks similar to a group of people.

Via - Road

Via is most favourable for any questions regarding journeys of any kind, but unfavourable for most other questions. It represents change and directed energy, and is best when that is needed.

Its element is Water, its zodiac sign is Cancer, its planet is the waning Moon, and its genius is Hasmoadai. Its opposite figure is Populus. This figure looks similar to a straight road.

Carcer - Prison

Carcer is normally a negative figure, representing restriction and isolation, but also representing stability and security. This figure is mentioned to be cause to destroy the tableau and try again later if this figure was found in the first house. If freedom is what is sought, this is a bad sign, but if security is what is needed, this is a great sign.

Its element is Earth, its zodiac sign is Capricorn, its planet is Saturn, and its genius is Zazel. Its opposite figure is Conjunctio. The figure looks similar to an animal pen or fenced-in area.

Conjunctio - Conjuction

Conjunctio is a mixed figure that brings forces together, for good or bad. More specifically, it symbolizes community and any kind of relationship. It is good when contact is wanted, such as if the querent wants friendship or community, but bad if the querent wishes to be left alone.

Its element is Earth, its zodiac sign is Virgo, its planet is Mercury, and its genius is Taphthartharath.

Fortuna Major – Greater Fortune

Fortuna Major is one of the best figures for most situations, symbolizing success and good fortune, as well as not needing any help to achieve goals. However, Fortuna Major is bad in the 12th house, where it means sickness and enemies.

Its element is Fire, its zodiac sign is Leo, its planet is the Sun, and its genius is Sorath. Its opposite figure is Fortuna Minor. This figure looks similar to a chalice.

Fortuna Minor – Lesser Fortune

Fortuna Minor is a mixed figure, characterized mostly by its speed. This figure is great when something needs to change quickly, but bad when time means a better result. Fortuna Minor is a bad sign for a scholar, for example, because learning takes time. However, if the querent wants a situation to change quickly, this is a good sign. It is bad when permanence is wanted as well. This figure also symbolizes outside help, such as friends and family.

Its element is Air, its zodiac sign is Taurus, its planet is the Sun, and its genius is Sorath. Its opposite figure is Fortuna Major. This figure looks similar to an upside-down chalice.

Puella - Girl

Puella is a fortunate figure, but not strongly fortunate. It represents harmony, fickleness, relationships, and ambivalence. Its results are imme  diate, but don’t stick around. Puella is good for love, and represents female sexuality.

Its element is Air, its zodiac sign is Libra, its planet is Venus, and its genius is Kedemel. Its opposite figure is Puer. This figure looks similar to a person with exaggerated breasts or a depiction of a vulva.

Puer - Boy

Puer is normally unfavourable, representing force, conflict, instability, and change. However, it also represents male sexuality, passion, and justice. It is good when energy and change are wanted, but is a rash and immature figure, and is bad when stability is needed.

Its element is Fire, its zodiac sign is Aries, its planet is Mars, and its genius is Bartzabel. Its opposite figure is Puella. This figure looks similar to a penis or a sword.

Acquisitio - Gain

Acquisitio means gain of any kind, especially material gain, but can represent any kind of acquisition. When gain is wanted, such as gaining money or friends, this is an incredibly favourable figure. However, if the gain is unwanted, such as gaining disease or enemies, this is incredibly unfavourable.

Its element is Fire, its zodiac sign is Sagittarius, its planet is Jupiter, and its genius is Hismael. Its opposite sign is Amisso. The figure looks similar to a bag held up.

Amisso - Loss

Amisso means loss of any kind, especially material loss, but can represent any kind of loss. When loss is wanted, such as losing a toxic relationship or fear, this is very fortunate to find. However, if loss is unwanted, such as losing a healthy relationship or money, this is very unfortunate.

Its element is Earth, its zodiac sign is Taurus, its planet is Mercury, and its genius is Taphthartharath. Its opposite figure is Acquisitio. The figure looks similar to a bag held upside down.

Albus – White

Albus is a figure attached to art, academia, and the occult, as well as general peace and harmony. It is a great sign for anything requiring clear thought or intelligence, with special mention to mathematics, scholarship, and divination. It is also mentioned to be good for business, finance, and beginnings (probably because being calm and knowledgeable are benefits in these situations). However, it is also mentioned that Albus is a bad sign for dealing with women [or your preferred genders], as well as making the querent controversial. Being a peaceful figure weighed by rationality, it is also a bad omen for conflict and disruptive change.

Its element is Air, its zodiac sign is Gemini, its planet is Mercury, and its genius is Taphthartharath. Its opposite figure is Rubeus.

Rubeus - Red

Rubeus is a figure of vice, violence, passion, and sexuality. It is normally a very unfavourable figure, and some older texts say to destroy the chart and ask the question later if Rubeus is found in the first house. However, Greer recommends looking at it from the viewpoint that the querent feels passionately about the topic they’re asking about. Due to its connotations, Rubeus was seen as a wholly negative sign. However, given that sex and violence are not inherently bad, Rubeus can prove fortunate if the question would benefit/pertains to either. Furthermore, passion is also something that could be useful.

Its element is Water, its zodiac sign is Scorpio, its planet is Mars, and its genius is Bartzabel. Its opposite figure is Albus .

Laetitia - Happiness

Laetitia is favourable, representing good health, happiness, and elation. The only case when Laetitia is a bad sign is whe  n stability is needed.

Its element is Water, its zodiac sign is Pisces, its planet is Jupiter, and its genius is Hismael. Its opposite figure is Laetitia.

Tristitia - Sadness

Tristitia is unfavourable, representing despair, difficulty, and deceit. However, it is favourable when building, dealing with the Earth (such as with agriculture), when permanence is needed, and strangely, debauchery.

Its element is Air, its zodiac sign is Aquarius, its planet is Saturn, and its genius is Zazel. Its opposite figure is Laetitia.

Cauda Draconis – Dragon’s Tail

Cauda Draconis is one the the most unfavourable figures, and was one of a handful of figures that was reason   to destroy the tableau and try again later if it appeared in the first house. However, Greer recommends looking at it from the viewpoint that the querent is leaving something behind. It represents ending and destruction of any kind. For most questions it is bad, but in situations where its destructive energy is needed, it is useful.

Its element is Fire, its zodiac sign is Sagittarius or the South Node, its planets are Venus and Jupiter (South Node), and its genii are Zazel and Bartzabel. Its opposite figure is Caput Draconis. The figure looks similar to a dragon’s tail, with the two dots at the foot of the figure being the dragon’s body, and singular dots on the body, neck, and head being the tail proper.

Caput Draconis – Dragon’s Head

Caput Draconis is a favourable figure, representing beginnings and opportunities, but also initial difficulty in starting affairs despite a good end result. It is good with good figures and good aspects, but bad with bad figures and bad aspects.

Its element is Earth, its zodiac sign is Virgo or the North Node, its planets are Mars and Saturn (North Node), and its genii are Hismael and Kedemel. Its opposite figure is Cauda Draconis. The figure looks similar to a dragon’s head, with the two dots on the head representing the eyes, and the neck, body, and feet being the snout.
